Symposium Success

We’ve just wrapped up another successful Southeastern Plant Symposium with nearly 250 attendees in-person and online. With a dozen amazing speakers, spanning the globe, everyone left with a greatly expanded knowledge, new friendships, and hopefully, something from the rare plant auction that featured over 590 amazing plants. Proceeds from the auction are split between the two sponsoring organizations, JCRA and JLBG. The 2027 dates are June 10,11…we hope to see you there.

Researcher Willow Gatewood, a bio-sonification specialist, dropped by with her computer sound system and electrodes, to let attendees hear some of the auction plants “speaking”. For those unfamiliar with the science, sensors attached to a plant record hidden micro fluctuations in electrical resistance, and convert them into sound. The sounds emanating from each plant would change depending on how we interacted with the plants, which was fascinatingly freaky.
