We’ve grown literally thousands of wild gingers, both North American and Asian natives. One of the finest plants in the entire collection is our 2000 Davidson County, NC, selection from a development site, that we named Asarum minus ‘Woodland Wonder’. Below is our 25 year old clump. As much as we hate to divide it, we’re never going to be able to share it unless we do, so we’ve got it scheduled for a fall divide.
I have one that is approximately 15 years old; how do you recommended it be divided? Thanks
Although we divide them all year, fall and winter seem to be the most ideal. I’d dig the entire plant from the ground, then use a garden knife to split it in half. From there, you can split it into as many pieces as you’d like. We’ll film a YouTube video soon, showing our techniques.
