I love the native flowering vine, Bignonia capreolata, but was shocked to find a specimen with giant 8″ long leaves. It would be nice if the flowers were correspondingly larger as well.

As a rock collector, the rocks were amazing, much of it degraded, but beautiful shale like this.
The Ozarks are rocky…incredibly rocky, due to past uplifts of the earth’s crust. The soil layer is so thin, it’s amazing anything grows here…except plants that need really good drainage.

One can only wonder how many fabulous native plant selections were destroyed by the massive amount of logging in the region…both on private land and in National Forests.
Just back from a botanizing trip into the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas. It’s a beautiful part of the county with rolling hills and low mountain plateaus. The Ozarks are the largest mountain range between the Rockies and the Appalachians and contain a number of interesting plants.
