One of our favorite native perennial groundcovers is the Georgia Pancake Bluestar, discovered by our friend Bob McCartney, retired of Woodlanders Nursery. We purchased our first plant from Woodlanders in 2001, before it even had a name, which we quickly remedied. Twenty five years later, we still think this is one of the finest perennial introductions in the last quarter century. It’s a great, tough-as-nails, well-behaved garden plant, that looks splendid from spring until fall, before it goes to sleep for winter. Despite its southerly origins, it’s proven completely winter hardy through at least Zone 5. We hope you’ll find a spot for Amsonia ‘Georgia Pancake’ in your sun garden. We currently have this in production and will have it available again for 2027.
