Flowering this week in our part shade rock garden, is the amazing, fall-flowered gesneriad, Titanotrichium oldhamii. This is simply an amazing plant that we grown for more than two decades. Several years ago, we were lucky enough to see in the wilds of Taiwan, where it grew from vertical rock walls. Light, but open shade, and soil with average moisture is fine. Hardiness is Zone 6b-10b.
It is beautiful. I tried to grow this one year – but my yard is mostly sun so it did not survive. How would this plant do in a pot?
I love growing sinningias because they do great in full sun.
They are fine in pots, but would need to be kept just above freezing in winter. This is an open shade plant, so no direct sun.
