For a decade, starting in 1971, one of the long running television commercials was for Memorex audio cassettes, featuring the late Ella Fitzgerald. I dare say there are less and less people who remember those days. The recurring question the commercial asked, to demonstrate the quality of the recording was, “Is it live, or is it Memorex?”
The question asked today is, “Is it live, or is it AI?” Having seen on-line plant photos, manipulated to the edges of the human imagination, I was taken aback when I spotted this incredible fungus patch by our exit drive, and how much it looked like something created by AI. I think Mother Nature needs take a bow for this amazing natural composition, which looks more like one of those unbelievable State Fair competition cakes. I’m giving this the grand prize without any formal judging. No AI wizards were harmed, and no photo enhancement programs were used to create this amazing scene.

No AI can beat the beauty and miracle of amazing nature!
Wow. That’s a gorgeous fungus. I love spotting the unusual ones after a rain.
Wow! That’s fun. I halfway expect a caterpillar to be smoking a hookah somewhere on there!
Wow, that is amazing! I wish I’d found such a beautiful specimen on any of my trees! It looks like turkey tail or false turkey tails, do you know which is it? As a botanical artist, I like to paint & draw fungi.
Looks like Trichaptum biforme.
Lovely, and looks like the carnivorous plant on the cover of a wonderful 1990s(?) Plant Delights catalog.
So very cool and unenhanced. Mother Nature does it best.
Very pretty!
