Plant images from the garden and nursery

The first of the cobra lilies has finally broken through the ground…here is Arisaema ringens in the garden yesterday.  The leaf sheath opens to reveal the leaf and floral stalk.

I had to share this photo from the gardens here at Juniper Level…Crocus vernus ‘King of the Striped’.  We don’t carry crocus, but this new favorite came from our friends at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs. This is one large and seriously cool crocus!

This Darrell Probst introduction is looking so good in our cold frames today…I wish you could see it in person.  Epimedium ‘Pink Champagne’ is a large growing, vigorous clumper that no shade garden should be without!

Looking good today is Epimedium wushanense ‘Sandy Claws’…a plant we originally obtained from Epimedium guru, Darrell Probst.  This is a compact, spreading clone that always seems to draw attention.  The leaves turn green after the spring flush…a truly superb fairy wing.

Here’s a new photo of Epimedium ‘Pretty in Pink’….a Plant Delights Nursery introduction…a great combination of large flowers and mottled foliage.

Finally, the epimediums have started to pop in the cold frames and they look wonderful.  We’re also seeing the first few stalks starting in the garden, but they are several weeks behind. The weather forecasts…if you believe long range forecasts, calls for our last frost of the spring this Wednesday night…hoorah!  Here’s a photo I

I should have used a video camera, for Jasper spent nearly an hour in various states of ecstasy tumbling around with the cut branches.  If you haven’t grown Teucrium marum, it provides a load of entertainment value.

It was time cut trim our plants of Teucrium marum…aka Kitty Crack.  No more than a minute after cutting the plant, Jasper came running and began to indulge.
