One of the program features of the Perennial Plant Association’s annual meetings are a series of industry awards. One of those is the highly competitive Landscape Design Awards, where the countries top landscape architects and designers whose work prominently featured perennials, learn if their designs won. There are several design categories: 1) residential designs under $25k, 2) residential designs with a 25-100k budget, 3) residential designs with a 100k+ budget, 4) commercial designs with a 100k+ budget, 5) public horticulture, and 6) temporary designs.
On a whim, we thought it would be fun to submit the JLBG garden section that we designed around our home, which hosted our first endowment fundraiser this past June. Well, to our surprise, we received the top Award of Excellence in our size category at the August meeting in Asheville, NC. Soon, the PPA will host an on-line program, where each design winner will present a short 20 minute talk about their design. Our presentation is scheduled during the December 3 event, from 11am-12:30pm. If this is of interest, you can sign up to attend here.
Why were you surprised to win the excellent award for residential landscaping in your category? No one in the whole state has a more beautiful and pleasing garden than Plant Delights. So congratulations for a well deserved award.
Thanks for the kind words, but our design style doesn’t follow many of the standard norms, such as designing on paper before planting. Also, the judging was done by Landscape Architects and Landscape Designers, not plant nerds.
