Golden Mariken

Our specimen of the dwarf, Gingko biloba ‘Mariken’ is looking quite lovely this week, with its golden fall foliage. This amazing plant was discovered in 1995 in Holland as a witches broom mutant. Fifteen years later (2010), it was named Plant of the Year by the American Conifer Society, and also awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. The mature heights one finds on-line are wildly variable from 2′ tall x 2′ wide, 3′ tall x 8′ wide, to 6′ tall x 8′ wide. Well, in Raleigh, NC, our 18 year old plants are now 10′ tall x 12′ wide.
