I vividly remember the first time I saw an on-line photograph of ‘Ippongi’, both due to the amazing foliage, but also the 12,000 USD price tag. That was 2017. Soon after, we would acquire a small plant in a trade with another agave collector. Although it’s a tropical plant that has no frost tolerance, this is one of the few non-variegated century plants that will always have a place in our collection, due to its amazing foliage. Because it doesn’t offset on its own, we challenged our propagation team to put this one on a fast-track coring program, which allowed us to offer it for the first time this year…9 years later. This is a small century, with a well-grown specimen reaching only 10″ tall x 18″ wide, after a decade.
