Taiwan Lady’s Slipper

Flowering this week at JLBG is the lovely Taiwanese lady slipper, Cypripedium formosanum. This is the earliest flowering of all the lady slipper orchids that we’ve grown, with most others not making an appearance for another month. Our plants are happy in rich, compost amended native soil with a pH near neutral. A couple of hours of early morning sun or light, open shade is best. (Hardy in zones 6b to 9b)

  1. Yup mine will be early also (about a week behind yours). But what’s interesting is my lathyrus is really early, starting to bloom last week. In 2021 both lathyrus and formosanum were simultaneous.
