Tuff Mountain Hydrangea

We’ve assemble a decent collection of Hydrangea through the years, and while we love them all, it’s hard to to beat the Japanese/Korean mountain hydrangea selection, ‘Mak20’. This creation was a seedling from Hydrangea serrata ‘Maiko’, selected by the breeders at Michigan’s Spring Meadow Nursery. Our oldest plants are now eleven years old, and they never fail to perform at a very high level. This is a wonderful, compact grower, that matures at 3′ tall x 4′ wide.

  1. We have your H. macrophylla ‘Maculata’ variegated lacecap that has slowly come along with a little help in what should be dry shade, and a couple of unnamed macrophylla lacecaps from a Joslin Garden (Raleigh) plant sale. Our ‘climbing hydrangeas’ incl. deciduous Flirty Girl False Hydrangea-Vine Schizophragma hydrangeoides and true climbing hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris, and an evergreen climber Hydrangea seemannii. We’d like to add more in our woodland edge garden, possibly H. arborescence ‘Haas Halo’ and H. quercifolia ‘Little Honey’. I recently put in a couple of H. serrata, a tuff little cookie named “Pink Dynamo” (below) that for me is practically indestructible, possibly out-tuffing Tuff Stuff. It would be fantastic if you could increase the diversity of hydrangea available locally by offering more of your collection.

  2. And in this day and age you won’t find it under that Cultivar name but rather its trademarked name “Tuff Stuff”

is this Tuff Mountain Hydrangea available for purchase for shipment to north Louisiana?
I lost my shrubs in a bed across the front of my house, due to an unusual freeze a few years ago. the bed faces east and is partially shaded by a mature live oak. The bed floods occasionally with rain water running off the roof. Your advice would be appreciated.
