We have really enjoyed watching Cycas taitungensis re-emerge from the winter…now going through its alien phase.

Also looking amazing in the garden now is the small bulb, Nothoscordum montevidense, shared by the late bulb guru, Dr. Thad Howard, who found it growing in Mexico.  Full sun makes it very happy.

Thanks so much for visiting Plant Delights and Juniper Level Botanic Gardens and for making our spring open nursery and gardens so successful.  Each day, after everyone leaves, Anita and I venture out in the garden, cameras in hand to capture some of the beautiful moments to share with those who weren’t here. Tomorrow (Friday) begins our final open nursery and garden for the spring season.  In case you needed some more enticing, here’s a current shot of the back patio garden by Mystic waterfall.  We hope to see you in the garden!

After a cold winter that saw all of our sago palm foliage fried, the new growth is emerging, and what an amazing sight it is to watch.  Usually 4-5 weeks after removing the old foliage, the new growth begins, looking like the launch of a rocket from the lunar surface.

Yes, those unmistakable harbingers of early May are releasing their amazing fragrance in the gardens today, and flies from all around are welcoming the news.  Few plants evoke the emotional response of an Amorphophallus konjac in the garden..sure to get your HOA all in an uproar.

And here’s a close-up of our new introduction, Baptisia ‘Blue Towers’…what a superb, sturdy upright plant, and looking so great today.

The baptisias are just looking fabulous this week at Juniper Level Botanic Garden…here’s a current shot of Hans Hansen’s Baptisia ‘Lemon Meringue’…how good is that!
