This amazing selection of pampas grass is looking particularly stunning at JLBG this summer. This plant has had quite a few false starts in commerce, but hopefully it’s getting a bit closer to being commercially available. We love its compact nature, although it does reach 7′ in height and 10′ wide.

What a beautiful grass. I grew “Sunningdale Silver” here on Cape Cod. I was pushing its limits – it made it through four or five years before it died. I would love to grow “Blue Bayou” but it would really be a risk. For those in the right zone, it is so worth growing for its beauty.
Is it invasive?
Not around here. There are small regions of California where pampass grass plumes were hauled by train in the last century and seed blew everywhere and it has escaped cultivation, but we’ve never seen it naturalize anywhere else.
