Cotinus ‘Winecraft Gold’ PP 30,327, is an amazing 2019 introduction from French nurseryman, Patrick Pineau, who selected it from seed, grown from the first gold leaf cultivar, Cotinus ‘Ancot’. Cotinus ‘Ancot’ was a breakthrough, although it’s lanky, open habit left a bit to be desired. Cotinus ‘Winecraft Gold’ is much more dense selection, with far better branching. It is consistently listed on-line, and in the patent, as maturing at 6-7′ tall, but our six year-old plant is already 9′ tall x 7′ wide. We’re not sure if that’s because of our growing prowess or someone’s inability to accurately read a tape measure. Regardless, allow enough room, and if you like the color gold, this is an exceptional selection. Hardiness zone 5a-8b.
