I snapped this photo of Agave geminiflora ‘Leaping Lizards’ last week, as we were bringing our tender, potted agaves in for the winter. When I gaze at this, I get the feeling that I’m either looking down on one of those three dimensional pinwheels, or an M.C. Escher drawing. The green form of this unusual century plant is a commercial landscape staple in large cities in the warm winter parts of the desert southwest US, both for its interesting texture, and lack of spines. I can only imagine that the variegated Agave geminiflora ‘Leaping Lizards’ would also be a huge hit, if it were in the commercial wholesale landscape trade. Hardiness zone 9b to 11, possibly colder.

This one has become my favorite 😍
