We’ve previously mentioned that we are re-starting or renowned One More Block Tours, that we paused in the mid-1990s, due to starting the nursery. Our initial idea was to provide unique botanical/horticultural travel opportunities to visit exceptional nurseries, gardens, and natural areas. This new version of the OMB tours, which will also serve as a JLBG fundraiser, will feature one of three tour guides (for now: Patrick McMillan, Doug Ruhren, and Tony Avent), depending on our schedule, and expertise in each area of travel.
We are thrilled that our adjunct researcher, Patrick McMillan, has agreed to lead many of our foreign trips, since there are few countries in which he isn’t an expert, having traveled around the world with his Emmy-award winning PBS show, Expeditions, and also leading tours for PBS. If you haven’t traveled with Patrick before, you’re in for a special treat.
Our first trip kicks off the new year, when Patrick leads the group to the amazing parts of Belize and Guatemala from January 29-February 4, 2026. This is a trip with a special appeal to lovers of very unusual tropical plants, as well as birders. We’re fortunate to work with the amazing folks at Limitless Travel to put these tours together.
