A splendid new selection, of the little-known, native (Virginia to Texas) Hydrangea barbara, is the gold-foliaged Hydrangea barbara ‘Chattahoochie Sunrise’. If you don’t recognize the name, it was formerly known as Decumaria barbara, before members of the genus hydrangea had an unexpected family reunion. We have grown this amazing discovery from Georgia plantsman, Cliff Brock, since 2019, and should finally have enough to share in our January 2027 catalog. This semi-evergreen climbing vine loves to climb trees, and can eventually grow to 40′ when happy, which usually involves average to moist soils. After years of growing upward, it produces clusters of fragrant white flowers in May/June.

I love this vine. I have clay soil that is in a moist area and semi-shady. Would it do well in this environment?
Sounds like ideal conditons.
I love this plant.will it grow in a moist semi shady area with clay soil-zone 8?
Sorry Tony, I didn’t see your previous comment.
Thanks, Darla
