What is a Xueshanbiancao?

For 2024, we are thrilled to offer the amazing, dwarf, variegated hardy orchid, Cymbidium goeringii ‘Xueshanbiancao’. Below you can see how it has thrived in our garden. The evergreen foliage is edged with a band of cream and has withstood 11 degrees F in the garden with little foliar damage. For us, the cream and green flowers usually start emerging in mid-February and continue into March.

Since we didn’t know what the cultivar name meant, I put the cultivar name in Google and searched. The search results yielded that it means Useless Golden Chrysanthemum Nose Spray. You’ve gotta love their truth in advertising. At least, we now know.

  1. On YT tour videos of PD, C. goeringii is often shown (but it doesn’t look like those have variegated leaves). Is it this same cultivar?
