A new hybrid that just been amazing in our garden this summer is Origanum ‘Drops of Jupiter’. This Walters Garden introduction is the ultimate edimental…a cross of the gold-leaf culinary oregano, Origanum vulgare, with the flowering Origanum laevigatum. The result is an amazing flowering plant with incredibly fragrant golden foliage. Here is our plant at JLBG putting on quite a show.

Does it need really good drainage? Growing in the crevice garden?
It’s not growing in the crevice. Typical garden soils, unless they are soggy, are fine.
That is a truly incredible oregano. I wonder if it could be edible.
Absolutely
Is the oreganos drops of Jupiter good for cooking? What is the flavour like and is it as strong as o offfinalis?
Yes, it’s good for cooking, but not being a cook, I can’t comment on its flavor compared to other spices.
