A Parade of the Plant, Formerly Known as Pratia

Looking cute as a proverbial button for the last few months is Pratia angulata, a plant whose recent name change has moved it into the genus, Lobelia, as Lobelia angulata. It is one of a very small number of plants we can grow here, that are native to New Zealand and the Chatham Islands. In the garden, average to moist soils and a sunny site are best. We’ve grown this for three decades, and while it grows at a decent pace, we haven’t found this 1″ tall, green mulch groundcover thuggish in the garden. It is also shade intolerant, so larger plants help keep it in bounds. For us, the flowering season begins in April. Hardiness Zone 6a-9b. This will be available in Plant Delights Nursery‘s August catalog.
