Both sides now

Running into our fascinating native green tree frogs, Hyla cinerea, is a regular occurrence at JLBG, and I seem unable to resist taking far too many photos of these amazing creatures. Recently, I was able to capture a ventral view for the first time, when one perched on my office window, doing its spiderman impersonation. Instead of the green color that we’re so used to seeing, its bottom was a cream to soft pink.

  1. We have a large population of arboreal and highly vocal Cope’s Gray Treefrogs that for the most part remain in the tree canopy high above; but once in a while they venture down in search of their tropical roots and perch in our Musa basjoo bananas and young Trachycarpus fortunei palms.
