Horticultural Shingles

I remember a few decades back, when my torso looked exactly like the foliage of Podophyllum ‘Spotty Dotty’, during a somewhat unpleasant bout of shingles. Fortunately, there is nothing but joy, that comes from growing this equally patterned mayapple, that’s looking great in the garden now. For over two decades, this Terra Nova introduction has been a star in our garden, but until we started digging nearby, and cut its roots, it remained a single clump. Podophyllum roots have dormant buds, so once a root is cut, each cut will produce a new plant. Now, this amaizng Podophyllum delavayi hybrid has created a lovely mass in the garden. Average to moist soils grow the healthiest plants. Hardiness Zone 5a-8b.
