Jade Fountain

Over the years, we’ve grown tens of thousands of Japanese sacred lily (Rohdea japonica) from seed. While the variegated leaf edges don’t come true from seed, the general form of the parent usually shows up in a majority of the offspring. Our goal has been to see how far we can push the outer limits of form and leaf shape. As we work toward narrower foliage, one of our selected plants that’s warranted a cultivar name is a cultivar we named Rohdea japonica ‘Jade Fountain. This plant looks very un-rohdea-like with its fountain like form and narrow foliage. Our original clump below is now 18″ tall x 3′ wide. Eventually, we’ll get around to dividing this so that we can one day share it.
