Outside of plant collector circles, few gardeners know of twinleaf…especially the rarer Asian cousin of a plant named after Thomas Jefferson, Jeffersonia dubia. When we wanted to try it years ago, we were told emphatically that it would not grow in the hot, humid south. Well…another gardening myth busted since here is our several year old clump in flower today in the garden.
Mine flowers every year BUT if I forget to look, it’s gone. This plant must have the shortest flowering period of all – one maybe two days? but it does seed so there will be more Jeffersonias soon and maybe, just maybe, they’ll not all flower on the same day?
You are correct in that each flower does have a very short bloom time, so plant them where you see them regularly. They are very special when they flower.
