Reineckea carnea is a plant in need to better PR firm. Despite offering this several times, sales are always miserable, while its cousins, liriope and ophiopogon are readily accepted into both home and public gardens. I think reineckeas are rather amazing evergreens, looking great as you can see below, as we move toward mid-January. Not only are they well-behaved evergreen groundcovers, but the liriope-like flower stalks add another attractive element. We currently grow 26 different reineckea accessions, including all three species, so we certainly have the market cornered on all plants for which there is no market. Zone 7a-10, at least.

Don’t know how I have missed this one. Will it grow in dappled shade, part sun? The blooms are enough reason to grow.
Yes, dappled shade is perfect.
Interesting pictures and plants. Not enough info about plant requirements, water, soil preference, aggressive behavior. How would it grow in N. Central Texas?
Reineckia doesn’t seems to be particular about soil type, and we’ve tried an array of soil moisture regimens except for wet soils, and they’
ve been fine in all that we’ve tried. We don’t grow plants that we find aggressive, so for us, that certainly hasn’t been an issue. Expect a 3′ wide patch in 6-10 years, depending on the care. I would anticipate it to be fine in Central Texas.
