Looking absolutely beacon-esque in the woodland garden as we head into fall is the evergreen Aucuba japonica ‘Mr. Goldstrike’. We grow well over 100 aucuba cultivars, and this is certainly one of the brightest. This is a male selection, so it produces no fruit, but instead has fascinating terminal clusters of rusty red flowers around Valentine’s Day. Hardiness Zone 7a-9b.

Hi Tony, how can I maximize the solid yellow on Mr Goldstrike and Shonan Mangetsu? Both my plants are coming in speckled, without the strong yellow that Shonan had when I got it from PDN. The yellow has burned, new tissue seems fine, just not as bright. Too much light, or not enough? Thanks
More light will help with keeping the foliage brighter. Raise the shade canopy by removing lower limbs or give more exposure to early day sun will work best.
