There are few times of year more exciting for us than lycoris (surprise lily) season, and we are right in the midst of that now. We’re also enjoying peak butterfly season at the same time, which is really great since butterflies love to drink surprise lily nectar. It’s hard to put the camera down with so many great photo opportunities, so we thought we’d share one of our favorites from this week…an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail on Lycoris x rosea. I have tried Lycoris several times with no luck. I live in Carrboro next to Chapel Hill. Is there a particular variety that is easier than most? I have tried them in several different gardens all of which are part sun/part shade. Any tips, suggestions? Is there a time of year that is best for planting? Thanks for any and all suggestions. I would love to have them in my garden if I can them to be happy.
Sure…you are too warm for Lycoris x squamigera and too cold for Lycoris aurea. All others should be fine. Which ones have you tried?
