Time to Visit…Summer Public Open Garden and Nursery

It’s that time of year when we open the gardens and nursery once again, so visitors can see what’s possible in the garden during the summer months. From July 11-13 and 18-20, the JLBG and PDN plant experts will be here to answer your garden questions or just talk plants. If you’ve got plants or weeds you don’t know how to manage, bring them or their photos along. We’ll be here from 9am-5pm, Friday -Sunday both weekends, so we hope you’ll come and join us. We’ve got an array of food trucks lined up for lunch, so if you get hungry, we can take care of that also. Our adjunct JLBG beekeeper, Phil Crump, will be here, with a stunning new array of honey for you to sample and purchase. Each morning, our staff will conduct short, Gardening Unplugged talks/garden tours, on an array of fascinating subjects. These are free to open house attendees.

If you see some plants you like in the garden during your visit, there’s a good chance they may be available in the Plant Delights sales greenhouses, which we also open for visitors. In most cases, these plants are completely different from what you’ll find at your local box stores, with many being exclusive PDN/JLBG introductions. To our knowledge, our selection (380+ taxa) of North American native perennials, exceeds any other nursery in the country.

The gardens, and all of our research work, has only two sources of funding, a percentage of plant sales, and garden memberships. If you’d like to help keep the gardens intact and these rare plants alive, we implore you to join us as a garden member. Not only are you supporting the garden, but the benefits of membership include our amazing quarterly newsletter, the reciprocal American gardens program, free access to our seed exchange, and so much more.
