One of the dazzling conifers at JLBG that always leaves visitors guessing and admiring is the monotypic genus, Taiwaniana cryptomeroides. While there are many specific epithet names that commemorate countries, this Taiwan endemic is one of the only plant genera named after a country. Taiwaniana ‘Independence’ is a superb, glaucous leaf clone that hails from the Nantou region at 7,200′ elevation. Our garden specimen is now 22 years old.

Nurseries Caroliniana had these for sale a couple of weeks ago. They are sold out now, but hopefully will carry it soon again.
Was this from Tom Cox?
No, this was from an Atlanta Botanic Garden collection.
I sent one to JCRA about 30 years ago, before JC’s tragic death, nevertheless I wonder if it is still there
It doesn’t appear to still be there. JC Distributed rooted cuttings, which we grew for years, but his form wasn’t nearly as spectactular as this ABG collection.
what’s the lowest temp this has been through? I’m currently growing seedlings of taiwania cryptomeroides up in zone 7a PA and wondering what my chances are if it surviving.
the plant I had came from China, it took 0 degrees and a couple of -2,-6 temps and kept going. I doubt it could handle more than that. usually at the seriously low temps it took a beating but came out of it .
