Tony what is the large-leaf tree on left with a cluster of red on each branch?
That’s the wonderful Ilex latifolia ‘Snow Flash’
Do you know of a source? I asked Dave at SFA Arb, and though he knows and likes this cv, he is unaware of a source.
Well, there really isn’t one currently. We have given cuttings to several nurserymen, but evidently it is difficult to root.
Beautiful! Deer, rarely an issue in summer, destroy everything evergreen in winter that’s in their grasp. Everything except my illiciums like “Florida Sunshine”, that is.
Great to know
We came across ‘Florida Sunshine’ this past summer. It’s yellow color is a highlight of our winter garden.
Looks lovely. Is the illicium in a shady or part shady spot? Guessing the protection from winds helps.
We’ve grown it in both full sun and light shade and it thrives in both
There are a couple of taller branches on the Illicium. Mine are growing similarly. Should these taller branches be pruned?
That’s personal preference, but if not, they will eventually fill in if it’s not in too much shade.
Hello, I purchased a banana boat sedge at the fall open house and it looks dead. Does it go dormant like this in winter and spring back soon? As well as the Heron’s pirouette?
Great question! Yes, both of these are completely winter dormant and will return in mid-spring!
The scene from the winter garden with lots of evergreen color looks so beautiful.
