Topsy Turvy

Flowering now in the garden is the North American native, Echeveria runyonii, a Northern Mexico succulent native to rocky cliffs in the state of Tamaulipas. This gem was discovered in the wild by our friends at Yucca Do Nursery in 1990 and the species was later named in honor of botanist, Robert Runyon. This delightful succulent has thrived for us for over a decade, having no problem at 7 degrees F, as long as its’ kept dry in the winter months. We grow ours under our house overhang, where it is quite happy, as you can see. The cultivar was subsequently named by former Huntington Gardens director and succulent guru, Myron Kimnack.
