I was just admiring one of our clumps of the amazing Yucca linearifolia in the garden…truly one of the stars of the genus. This North American native, named as recently as 1995, can be found naturally around the Nuevo Leon region in Northern Mexico. The plant below is now 18 years old and 5′ tall. They typically form a solitary trunk, but occasionally seedlings like this can form multiple heads. After about fifteen years, they also form small offsets along the base, that can be removed and planted in a new location. So far, our plants have only been subjected to winter temperatures of 7 degree F, which they endured fine. Expected winter hardiness is Zone 7a-10b.
