Ding Dong…Who’s There? Beschor-who?

Spiking over the last few weeks before finally opening is the crazy agave relative, Beschorneria ‘Ding Dong’. All of us who have crazy relatives, can relate to family members that are somewhat off of the bell curve. Beschorneria has thick, evergreen, spineless leaves, and flower stalks that look like Christmas lights on LSD. Beschorneria ‘Ding Dong’ is a hybrid of Beschorneria yuccoides and septentrionalis, that we introduced in 2003. Hardiness is Zone 7b-10b.

    1. We last offered it in 2010, and it sold so poorly that I doubt any tissue culture labs would ever find it worthwhile to produce. The closely we have now is Beschorneria septentrionalis ‘Fairey Christmas’. Our next crop will be ready in another six months.

  1. Wow, why would that plant not sell? It is gorgeous. Thank you for the information about the Fairey Christmas.

    1. That’s exactly the questions we ask ourselves. Part of the key is it being an unknown genus. Otherwise, it’s a mystery.
