Okay, how many out there are growing kungias? Be honest, now! Kungia is a little-known genus of only two species of succulents, native to Gansu, Shanxii, and northern Sichuan, China. The majority of plants that look anything like this are almost all native to the deserts of Africa, so it’s not surprising that our Kungia schoenlandii var. stenostachya, was little known to science until it was published as a genus in 1988. Well, actually, it was originally named and discovered in 1932, but for decades is was mistaken for a sedum, and later in 1965, a Sinocrassula. We weren’t sure it would survive our summer temperatures, but despite being native up to almost 9,000′ elevation, it seems quite happy. The landscape value probably isn’t super high, but it’s cool value is off the charts.
Do the K’s have an odor and if so like what?
We have yet to have flowers, but will check when they do.
