Late winter is peak season for our large collection of wild gingers, of the genus, Asarum. Below are a few from this week.
The Chinese Asarum forbesii is typically deciduous, although we have a couple of clones, which retain a good percentage of their foliage, which we remove this time of year, for better flower visibility.

Asarum ichangense is another Chinese species, with one of the most dense floral shows of any species we grow.

Asarum porphyronotum ‘Internet’ is yet another Chinese species, but unlike the above, this has larger flowers, but the flowers are much more sparsely produced.

Thank you for the wild ginger flower pics. I was cleaning up my beds a few days after reading this and there they were on my plants, looking like weird alien mouths! So cool. Thanks for the timely education!
We’re so glad you located the flowers. They are well hid, but very cool, and worth searching below the foliage.

thanks for sharing the great photos!
