Asarum (Wild Ginger)

The JLBG collection includes about 92 species (including subspecies and varieties), 15 undetermined, 5 nothospecies, 1 undescribed; 613 clones

JLBG currently houses one of the largest ex-situ Asarum collections in the world, comprising 613 taxa, including 92 species (including subspecies and varieties), of the currently 177 recognized species/subspecies. This includes the former genus Hexastylis, of which numerous DNA studies has shown nested well within the genus Asarum.

Asarum (Aristolochiaceae) are native in the USA, Asia, and Europe. The recognized species/subspecies by country are: Japan (83 species), China & Vietnam (42 species), US (23 species), China/Taiwan (13) Vietnam only (5), Korea (4), and Europe (3).

So far, we have posted over 300 images, but welcome images of taxa not seen here, and well as any comments on our taxonomy/naming.
