Carex (Sedge)

The JLBG collection includes about 128 species (including subspecies and varieties), 1 undescribed, 18 undetermined and 4 nothospecies;257 clones

Juniper Level Botanic Garden currently (2024) grows over 100 species of carex, making our holdings one of the largest living carex collections in the world. While carex are still gaining in popularity, knowledge about the horticultural value of this genus is still in its infancy. Most of photos found on-line are so poor, that no landscape designer in their right mind would intentionally plant one. In our gallery, we hope to show the potential of these amazing sedges when they are properly grown.
